Senators, family, and friends gather for Dessie A. Bebout Shoshoni Post Office dedication at Shoshoni High

(Shoshoni, WY) – Over a hundred people gathered at Shoshoni High School this morning for the Dessie A. Bebout Post Office dedication.

Senator John Barrasso and Representative Harriet Hageman were in attendance and each gave speeches, adding color to Bebout’s service to the country. Speakers brimmed with pride about the Shoshoni legend beginning with her service with WAVES during the Navy’s war effort in World War II and her 13 years working as the Post Master in Shoshoni while she raised four of her own and two of her sister’s children after she’d suddenly passed away in 1961.

Bebout’s eldest son Eli Bebout talked fondly of his mother Wednesday at her dedication ceremony. “Mothers are so very special to us,” said Bebout after sharing a few family stories. “Thanks for gathering to celebrate my mom.”

Over 100 fremont county locals showed up to Shoshoni High for the Dessie A. Bebout post office dedication ceremony Wednesday.

Senator John Barrasso the process of getting the dedication bill passed through the Senate and House, and then to the president’s desk in November, Wednesday at Bebout’s post office dedication.

Wyoming’s United States House Representative Harriet Hageman spoke to the audience gathered about the postal service and her thanks for Dessie Bebout. “May we remember Dessie’s legacy,” said Hageman. “I know it will always be inspiring to me.”

Bebout’s eldest son Eli spoke about his mother fondly at the event. “There were five of us and dad was away at work, so she really raised all of us,” said Bebout.

“We all graduated from the University of Wyoming, which she was very proud of… Mothers are so special. Thanks for gathering to celebrate my mom today.”
