(Fremont County, WY) – The sentencing hearing for Kandace Sitting Eagle has been reset for September 17, and will take place before the Honorable Judge Alan B. Johnson.
The originally scheduled August 29 hearing was vacated and rescheduled on August 6. No reason for the change was available in the online registry, but a non-public Prosecutor’s statement was filed on August 5, one day before the Court ordered the change in date.
Kandace was charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon and aggravated child abuse, and was found guilty of those charges by a federal jury back in June.
These charges came about after law enforcement reportedly discovered a juvenile in Kandace and her husband Truman’s care who had been being kept from school, was locked in his room and deprived of food for long periods of time, and had been physically assaulted on multiple occasions.
Truman was sentenced to 108 months imprisonment and ordered to pay $33,622.93 in restitution back in early August.
Kandace’s mother also faces a federal felony tampering with a witness charge in relation to the case, after it was found that she reportedly coached the siblings of the victim to not speak to law enforcement during investigation interviews. Her jury trial was originally set for August 26, but was later rescheduled for October 15.
