All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
(Fremont County, WY) – The originally scheduled February 6 sentencing hearing for Riverton man Burdick Seminole Sr. has been rescheduled for February 27 before the Honorable Judge Scott W. Skavdahl in the U.S. District Court of Casper, according to recent federal court filings.
Seminole was found guilty by jury of first degree murder, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and causing death with a firearm during a crime of violence, back in November of 2024.
Seminole faced these charges in relation to the August 8, 2023, murder of Michael Standing Elk. He initially attempted to rely on the insanity defense, but was deemed competent to proceed in April of 2024.
Following the jury’s guilty verdict, the February 6 sentencing hearing was set, but a motion to continue the sentencing was filed on January 22, 2025.
The motion was requested because “the Defendant would like additional time to gather letters in support from his family and friends and has asked that counsel and the investigator assist in collecting letters and other materials which may assist in mitigation.”
The motion was unopposed and later accepted by the court, and the February 27 date was set.
