All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
(Lander, WY) – A sentencing hearing for Nicholas Blackburn has been set for May 29, following a plea agreement that was submitted on March 14, according to recent court document filings.
Blackburn was charged with one count of voluntary manslaughter and one count of involuntary manslaughter, in relation to the death of Pete Ouray, who was found deceased in his home on March 17, 2024.
Blackburn initially pled “not guilty” to the charges at this October 2024 arraignment, and a March 17 jury trial was set.
However, that jury trial was vacated when a plea agreement was filed on Blackburn’s behalf on March 14.
The plea agreement states that Blackburn “shall plead guilty to count 2,” with the condition that count 1 will be dropped upon the Court’s potential acceptance of the agreement.
“As to count 2, the Defendant shall be sentenced to serve a term of not less than 6 years nor more than 12 years,” the plea agreement stipulates. As per the plea agreement, Blackburn will also be ordered to pay restitution, the amount of which was not disclosed.
The Court will either accept or decline the agreement at the May 29 sentencing hearing.
