(Riverton, WY) – The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office has reported that “at least six individually set fires” were responded to at the historic 1838 Rendezvous site this morning, September 5.
“On September 5, 2025 at around 11:00 AM, a Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling in the parking area of the 1838 Rendezvous site near Riverton,” the FCSO release states. “The Deputy noticed smoke in the area and located a grass fire in the gated area of the Rendezvous site.”
The release goes on to state that the Deputy then noticed another grass fire further down the road. In total, “at least six” small, individually set fires were located in the area as the Riverton Fire Department responded to the scene along with other first responders accessing the area.
“The Riverton Fire Department was able to extinguish all of the fires, with minimal damage to the site,” the release continues. “The fires were determined to be intentionally set fires. Anyone with any information related to a person or persons responsible for setting the fires is asked to contact the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.”
