#Smiles: ‘A leader on the court’ – RHS senior Alexis Taylor recognized for WHSAA Good Sportsmanship Award at school board meeting

(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton School Board recognized senior volleyball player Alexis Taylor this week for earning the Wyoming High School Activities Association Good Sportsmanship Award. 

Taylor was recognized for her actions during a Sept. 29 contest, when game officials said she and a Star Valley player “were such great examples of good sports on the court.”

“They were good sports throughout the sets,” officials Pauline Fackrell and Bill Thompson of Lyman wrote in the Good Sportsmanship Award report form. “They were always encouraging and cheering for their team members.”

Referring to Taylor specifically, the game officials said they weren’t surprised “to look at the program after the game to find that Alexis was a senior.”

“She was for sure a leader on the court,” the officials said. “She led her younger team members with such a great spirit.”

WHSAA Associate Commissioner Chad Whitworth said he was pleased to hear that Taylor and her coaches “understand the true meaning of participation.”

“Sportsmanship is a goal that all our coaches and athletes should have as they participate in activities,” Whitworth wrote in a letter to Riverton High School Principal Thomas Jassman. “Please extend my appreciation and congratulations to Alexis.”

Board members also expressed appreciation for Taylor’s actions this week, with Board Chair Bruce Berg thanking her “for representing our school.”

“That’s what we want – is for you to be a great leader,” Trustee Lynette Jeffres said.
