Shoshoni senior Prestley Barta is a state champion. Barta was runner-up a season ago in the high jump, but this time she cleared 5-2 on her first attempt, and her rival Dana Barnhurst of Wright took three attempts to clear the height. They both narrowly missed clearing 5-4, but Barta was crowned state champion with fewer misses.
She was the only Fremont County athlete to win a state title in a meet dominated by Big Horn in both boy’s and girl’s divisions.
The high jump was Shoshoni’s event, with Preston Hance taking second in the boys’ division while clearing 5-11.
Sawyer Arnhold placed in the 100, 200, and long jump, with freshman distance runner Alyssa Good second in the 3200-meter run. She also placed in the 800 and 1600-meter runs.
Wind River sophomore Eli Hill paced the Cougars with a third-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles.
For Wyoming, it was a great weekend for freshman Tristan Her Many Horses, who placed in the 400-meter dash. Dai’Onna Posey placed sixth in the 3200-meter run.
Posey and Her Many Horses were joined by Feather Spoonhunter and Marysa Trumbull in a fifth-place finish in the 4×800-meter relay.
