Clay Sheets continues a tradition with his father and older brother, Ty. He signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at Chadron State University. Sheets is a Class 3-A all-state selection and will play for Riverton head coach Mark Lenhardt on the North Squad in this summer’s Shrine Bowl.
Sheets is a three-sport athlete at Riverton High School competing in football, basketball, and track.
Sheets looked at South Dakota School of Mines, Adams State, and Chadron. The Eagles won out.
He plans to pursue a degree in business, with his future plans uncertain.
“You can do a lot of things with a business degree,” Sheets said.
He carries a 3.13 grade point average and was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He joins a large group of standout Riverton athletes who have played football, basketball, and track at the university nestled in the Sand Hills of Nebraska. The size of the community appealed to Sheets.
“I like it,” Sheets said. “It’s a small town. It reminds me of Riverton.”
Growing up in an athletic family, he has experienced competition since before grade school.
“I want to thank my parents and my coaches,” Sheets said. “My family has been to all of my games, and the coaches are so supportive.”
He is the son of Beau and Tara Sheets.
