(Louisville, KY) – Lander Middle School cross country runner Chase Hartpence recently competed at the Middle School Nationals Cross Country Championship, held at the Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky, where he placed 14th overall.
Hartpence, the sole athlete from Wyoming in the competition, ran the 4km (roughly 2.5 miles) race in 13 minutes and 37 seconds, which earned him All-American status, along with the other top 25 finishers.
“I’m just so proud of how hard he works,” Chase’s mom Tiffany shared with County 10. “To be a successful runner in Wyoming requires a lot of training alone, and in challenging weather conditions throughout the full year, and he does it all with joy. We are very thankful for all of the wonderful coaches that have helped him along the way: Robby Lee (Life Well Run Coaching), Ashley Kraenzel and Misty Atnip.”
Hartpence, who has been running cross country for three years now, says his next goal is to run a 4:40 mile during the track season.
