(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, April 17, the expected storm system will be settling over the Great Basin. Ahead of this system, a strong, westerly, moisture-laden upper-level flow will establish itself as it rides over the cold dome of air above Wyoming.
Lipson says this will result in snow, often heavy at times, all through today and tonight, with northeast winds gusting up to 40+ mph. This will cause considerable blowing and drifting snow, especially on Beaver Rim and South Pass.
Snow accumulations by the end of the day range from 2 inches in Shoshoni, 5 inches in Riverton, 7-10 inches on Beaver Rim and in Lander, and as much as 12-15 inches along the Wind River Mountains, including Sinks Canyon and South Pass.
The National Weather Service in Riverton also shared that the moderate to heavy snow and gusty winds will continue through midday Friday, and advised that travel conditions could become slippery.
High temperatures will be in the lower 30’s for most today, with lows tonight in the 20’s.
