(Riverton, WY) – Teddy, a white miniature poodle, was just a puppy when he was stolen from Alaina Tripp’s Ottawa, Canada apartment last fall, according CBC News.
It was only by chance that Teddy and the suspect, who had been identified in video surveillance in the apartment break-in, turned up in Riverton.
The suspect was pulled over by a Riverton Police Department officer for running a red light and noticed he had a warrant for his arrest. The warrant happened to mention he was in possession of a stolen dog.
“Ottawa police told CBC News the man had been wanted in connection with a residential break-and-enter and an investigation is ongoing.”
The RPD officer confiscated a much larger and dirtier Teddy from the suspect. He has been in the care of Paws for Life Animal Shelter since.
The suspect was eventually arrested.
“CBC News confirmed the man pleaded not guilty in Riverton court on Monday and is currently in custody.”
There have been a few roadblocks to getting Teddy back to his rightful owner in Canada, but RPD had an update today that there has been an outpouring of support and help being offered to reunite them.
