The Wind River Visitors Council is thrilled to release economic impact numbers from 2024 as part of National Travel and Tourism Week, which takes place from May 4 to 10, 2025.
In 2024, Wyoming welcomed 8.7 million overnight visitors who spent $4.9 billion in the state. That visitor spending generated $277.2 million in local and state taxes, while 33,850 Wyoming jobs were supported by the tourism industry. And while many Wyoming residents travel throughout the state, 75% of direct visitor spending was generated by international and out-of-state visitors.
Within the Wind River Country region, which includes Fremont County and the Wind River Indian Reservation, traveler spending is felt in a variety of business sectors, including lodging, food and drinks, retail stores and shops, arts and entertainment, guided recreation, fuel and more.
A few stats for Fremont County:
- Fremont County welcomed 517,000 visitors for a total of 1,182,00 overnight stays in 2024
- Travel generated 1,550 jobs in Fremont County
- Travelers spent $175.7 million in Fremont County in 2024, which generated $9.5 million in state and local taxes
- Every $100 a visitor spent in Fremont County produced $6.50 in local and state tax revenues
- Top origin markets for visitors to Wind River Country include Colorado, Utah, Montana, Texas and Idaho.
The Wind River Visitors Council markets Fremont County and the Wind River Indian Reservation, including nine distinct communities, hundreds of miles of wide-open spaces and the Wind River Mountain Range. The organization works collaboratively with tribal nations and the Wyoming Office of Tourism, while supporting local businesses and promoting recreating responsibly.
