(Lander, WY) – Lander kept their undefeated record in perhaps their toughest matchup of the year thus far in Douglas, beating the Bearcats 35-14 Friday night in Lander. Lander applied pressure from the start scoring on their first drive down the field on a run by Parker Burton. Douglas had difficulty getting their offense off the ground with a slew off costly penalties, turnovers, and Lander’s swarming defense early on.
Lander accumulated 28 points while holding Douglas to zero in the first half, giving the Tigers a fluffy cushion to ride out the second half. Paxon Hollingshead had a great game passing for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Two of his touchdowns were caught by Finn McFadden who gained 67 yards on three catches.
Cody West stepped up in a big way with the absence of Brayden Baker, who is out for the rest of the season after a knee injury suffered last week. Now seeing all of the action at running back, West piled up 189 yards picking up seven first downs along the way.
On defense Gus Childers, Darion Hereford, Parker Burton, and Finn McFadden shined with the most tackles, with a fumble recovery for Hereford and an interception for McFadden. The Tigers defense looked sharp, especially early, against Douglas, though a few lapses late on allowed Douglas to get 14 on the bard before the final buzzer rang.
So far, The Tigers have looked unstoppable this season, but with Riverton coming to town for next Friday, Lander will face their first team with a winning record in the Wolverines. The game will kickoff at Bill Bush Stadium at 6 p.m. sharp.
