(Wyoming) – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has announced the winners of Wyoming Wildlife magazine’s annual photo contest for 2024, and among the recipients are two Fremont County photographers.
Both entries were for the “Flora” category, with Nancy Alley from Lander taking first place, and Wes Uncapher from Riverton taking second place.
Alley’s photo, “Study in stillness,” and Uncapher’s “Lilly pads” are pictured below.
The WG&F release states that this is the 55th year of the annual contest, which received “more than 3,000 submissions.”
“This year’s Wyoming Wildlife photo issue was phenomenal due to the vast number of high-quality images submitted by the public participants in our 2024 Annual Photo Contest,” said Patrick Owen, Wyoming Wildlife creative director. “We’d like to thank all participants because it is an honor and remarkable experience viewing all of your photo entries. The judging panel is always forced to make tough decisions in selecting winners and honorable mentions.”
The grand prize winner for the best overall photo was “Somebody doesn’t want to share,” a photo of two gray wolves taken by Evan Watts of Gardiner, Montana.

- Third place: Julia Cook, Cody, Wyoming, “Cliffhanger.”
Winners for the Scenic category include:
- First place: Katie Lichtendahl, Cody, Wyoming, “In the beginning.”
- Second place: Matt Ley, Cheyenne, Wyoming, “Pole mountain lightning strike.”
- Third place: Jake Mosher, Bozeman, Montana, “Midnight blue.”
Winners for the Recreation category include:
- First place: Brian Klaren, Eagle, Idaho, “Photographing the firehole.”
- Second place: Jim Gates, Worland, Wyoming, “Best friends.”
- Third place: Jacqueline Burke, Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, “Art imitates life.”
