(Fort Washakie, WY) – Now in its fourth year, the Path of Honor Veterans Day Ceremony continued the tradition of honoring those who have served our country, for Veterans Day 2024.
The ceremony was organized/conducted by the American Legion Richard Pogue Post #81.
The Path of Honor, located at the Frank B. Wise Business Center in Fort Washakie, is Wyoming’s first dedicated memorial that honors Native American Veterans, which also serves as a tribute to all military service members who live within the boundaries of the Wind River Reservation.
The ceremony was opened by Scout River, who performed a Flag Song, an Honor Song and a Closing Song, in between words from members of the Post that honored our service men and women.
Post member, Army Veteran (E3 field radio operator) and recent House District 33 Representative winner in the 2024 Election Ivan Posey shared the following about today’s ceremony.
“We get a good outpouring here, a good outpouring of support in the Tribal community, as we do probably everywhere else in the country. It’s a day that we recognize the service that Veterans sacrificed, whether overseas, stateside, peacetime, or wartime. And it’s something we look forward to.”
Posey also had this to say about the Path of Honor.
“It actually came about through Scotty Ratliff, who thought that there could be something that recognizes the Tribal Veterans. It shows all the branches of the service. The one side of the stone has faces of people from here who have served.”
