(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, February 16, will be mostly sunny with near record high temperatures in the upper 50s as southwest winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour usher in warmer air. Winds will gust as high as 40 to 45 miles per hour in southeast Fremont County from South Pass to Beaver Rim to Jeffrey City.
Tonight, a moisture-laden upper-level diffluent flow from the south moves in ahead of an approaching vigorous trough of low pressure, and an associated Pacific cold front will lead to increasing south-southwest winds, along with widely scattered rain showers developing late this evening. The rain showers will mix with snow late tonight. Expect south-southwest winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour tonight, with 40 to 50 miles per hour winds and gusts of 60 miles per hour in southeast Fremont County. Under cloudy skies, lows will be in the mid-30s.
For tomorrow Tuesday, Lipson says to expect widely scattered rain and snow showers as the frontal passage occurs in the morning. Conditions will be very windy with west winds of 35 to 45 miles per hour with gusts of 55 miles per hour behind the front by afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 70 miles per hour from South Pass to Jeffrey City, with local gusts of 80 miles per hour occurring along Highway 28 above Red Canyon in the morning.
In addition, snow will fall in the Wind River Mountains tonight and Tuesday, with up to 4 to 7 inches of snow expected by Tuesday afternoon on Togwotee Pass, and 2 to 5 inches on South Pass. South Pass will also feature considerable blowing and drifting snow, along with the potential for occasional near-whiteout conditions.
