(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, December 17, the strong Pacific trough and associated Pacific robust cold front will tighten the pressure gradient quite a bit, resulting in the expected, potentially damaging winds from the southwest today at speeds of 35 to 45 miles per hour, with gusts of 70 mph. (Southeast Fremont County, including Jeffrey City, could even see 80 to 85 mph gusts.)
Additionally, the Wind River Mountains will receive accumulating snow, with Togwotee Pass likely to see half a foot by late this evening. Tonight will be partly cloudy and colder, with winds decreasing after midnight to 15 to 25 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service in Riverton also reported that highs will be in the 50s and 40s today (South Pass at 37 degrees), with lows tonight in the upper 20s for most areas.
