(Fremont County, WY) – The Wyoming Bureau of Land Management has shared that, as of today, August 13, the Weiser Knoll Fire is 51% contained, with the total acreage remaining at 16,351 acres.
The 51% containment was reached yesterday following substantial progress and perimeter gains along the north side of the fire, according to the BLM’s latest update.
Multiple ground resources remain actively engaged on the line today and are continuing mop-up operations throughout the fire area to ensure established containment lines hold. (Mop-up operations involve firefighters systematically cooling hot spots and extinguishing smoldering debris along the perimeter to prevent spot fires outside the line.) A Type 1 helicopter remains on site to support ground personnel with targeted water drops on active heat as needed.
Today’s update also includes the following closure, safety, and weather information:
- Current Evacuation orders are still in effect – updates are available on the Fremont County – Wyoming – Emergency Management Agency Facebook page.
- A public closure remains in effect for all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administered lands within the junction of U.S. Highway 287 and Wyoming Highway 28. This includes all lands east of Wyoming Highway 28 to Beaver Creek and all lands south of U.S. Highway 287 to Beaver Creek. - Twin Creek Rd. remains closed to the public and open only to area landowners. Highway WY 28 and US 287 remain open; motorists are urged to remain alert, slow down, and yield to fire traffic and emergency crews working near the roadway.
- Reminder: If you fly, we can’t. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) FDC 6/4089 is in effect over the Weiser Knoll Fire area. Flying drones near the fire is strictly prohibited and can interfere with firefighting aircraft, potentially grounding aerial suppression operations. For detailed information on the TFR, click here.
- Rainfall activity is expected to continue through 8 PM tonight, during which heavy rain and lightning are possible across the fire area. Outside of any shower or thunderstorm activity, winds will remain generally light. Conditions are expected to dry out by sunset this evening.
