The Wind River Visitors Council is celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week, May 3 to 9 and releasing economic impact numbers from 2025.
In 2025, Wyoming welcomed 8.8 million overnight visitors who spent $5 billion in the state. That visitor spending generated $291.8 million in local and state taxes, while 33,960 Wyoming jobs were supported by the tourism industry. And while many Wyoming residents travel throughout the state, 72.5% of direct visitor spending was generated by international and out-of-state visitors.
A few 2025 stats for Fremont County:
- Fremont County welcomed 518,000 visitors for a total of 1,186,000 overnight stays
- Travel generated 1,540 jobs in Fremont County
- Travelers spent $181.3 million in Fremont County in 2025, an increase of 2.7% from 2024
- Top sectors for visitor spending in Fremont County are food, accommodations, arts/entertainment/recreation, transportation/gas, retail sales and groceries
- The average length of stay in Fremont County is 2.3 days
- Top origin markets for visitors to Wind River Country include Colorado, Montana, Utah, Texas and California
- Wind River Country’s social media had 5,179,963 views, gained 1,791 net follows and had 54,038 interactions, an increase of 112.4% from 2024
To celebrate the tourism industry, as well as the creativity and character of Wind River Country, the Wind River Visitors Council partnered with Wyoming Whiskey and local venues to host a community cocktail and mocktail project. Locals were invited to submit cocktail and mocktail recipes, with tasting and voting events taking place during NTTW. Join the festivities in Dubois on May 5 at The Rustic Pine Tavern (5:30 p.m.), in Lander on May 8 at the Coalter Loft (6 p.m.) and in Riverton on May 9 at Bar Ten (6:30 p.m.), with heavy appetizers provided at each location. The Wind River Visitors Council is also debuting a new website on May 6.
The Wind River Visitors Council markets Fremont County and the Wind River Indian Reservation, including nine distinct communities, hundreds of miles of wide-open spaces and the Wind River Mountain Range. The organization also works collaboratively with tribal nations and the Wyoming Office of Tourism, while supporting local businesses and promoting responsible recreation.
