(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, February 17, widely scattered rain and snow showers are expected as the frontal passage occurs in the morning, with very windy conditions.
Lipson says to expect western winds of 35 to 45 miles per hour, with gusts of 55 to 65 miles per hour over much of the Winter River Basin, but winds could gust as high as 70 miles per hour from Lander to South Pass to Jeffrey City, and we could see localized wind gusts of 80 miles per hour occurring along Highway 28 above Red Canyon on the way to South Pass.
Additionally, snow will fall in the Winter River Mountains today, with up to 4 to 7 inches expected by this afternoon on Togwotee Pass, and 2 to 5 inches on South Pass. South Pass will also feature considerable blowing and drifting snow, along with the potential for occasional whiteout conditions. Tonight will be partly cloudy with lows near 20 degrees, and southwest winds are expected to decrease after midnight.
