(Fremont County, WY) – The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued Winter storm warnings and advisories for various areas in Fremont County ahead of the incoming weather system, which is already expected to result in road impacts for much of the area.
A winter storm warning is in effect from 11 PM tonight, October 28, through 7 AM Wednesday morning for the Wind River Mountains (East).
Travel could be very difficult at times in that area, and the hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes, especially Tuesday afternoon on South Pass when winds increase.
Jeffrey City is also part of a Winter storm warning in that same timeframe, with heavy snow expected to accumulate between 6 and 12 inches, and winds gusting as high as 45 mph. The NWSR says “travel could be very difficult to impossible” in this area.
Winter weather advisories were also issued for the same timeframe in multiple areas in Fremont County, including Dubois in the Wind River Basin region, where total snow accumulations are expected to be between 3 and 7 inches, with winds gusting as high as 35 mph. “Plan on slippery road conditions,” the NWSR advises. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.”
Between 3 to 6 inches are expected for Lander and the Lander Foothills, the NWSR also shared in the advisories, and the Wind River Mountains (West)/Bighorn Mountains (Southeast, West) could see between 6 and 12 inches and up to 15 inches for the highest elevations, along with winds gusting up to 35 mph.
