(Fremon County, WY) – The National Weather Service in Riverton (NWSR) has shared that a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the Upper Wind River Basin, Wind River Basin, Lander Foothills, and lower elevations in Natrona County, from Wednesday night, March 5, through Thursday night, March 6.
This includes the cities of Casper, Riverton, Lander, Shoshoni, and Dubois.
Heavy snow is possible, the NWSR also shared, with total snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches possible. The Lander Foothills, “especially up toward Sinks Canyon,” could see 12 inches.
There will also be winds gusting up to 40 mph, meaning “travel could be difficult,” and the “hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes” the NWSR advises.
The NWSR also shared that heavy snow is possible for the Wind River Mountains, with total snow accumulations of 6 to 16 inches, and up to 20 inches at the peaks along the southern end of the Wind River Mountains.
Winds could gust as high as 45 mph in this area as well, and travel through the South Pass could be “very difficult.”
