(Riverton, WY) – It was a good performance for indoor track athletes from Riverton and Lander competing at the Mustang Invitational hosted by Kelly Walsh High School in Casper on Saturday.
Lander does not have an indoor track team so the Tiger runners compete for Riverton. In previous years runners from Wind River, Wyoming Indian, Shoshoni, and St. Stephen’s have also competed indoors for the Wolverines.
The Riverton boys squad fared well behind senior Tristan Watkins who placed in both the 55 meter and 200 meter dashes. Lander sprinter Shawn Cozzens also placed in the 55 meter race.
Riverton’s Caleb Crowley ran a solid 54.60 time in the 400 meter dash, and Wolverine sophomore Kaden Chatfield continued his stellar distance career with a second place finish in the 1600 meter run while also placing in the 800 meters.
Riverton’s Watie Whiteplume placed in the high jump.
On the girl’s side, all the top 10 performances went to Lander girls running for Riverton.
Avery Bever, Avery Crane, Abby Gribowskas, and Lily Swanson combined for third in the 4×200 meter relay.
Crane placed third in the 400 meter dash and also placed in the 55 meter sprint.
Eleanor Kaufman was eighth in the 400 meter dash, and Asha Reid cleared 4-10 in the high jump for a fifth place finish.
Lander girls competing for Riverton this indoor season are Avery Bever, Samantha Capitan, Abby Gribowskas, Marlee Jones, Eleanor Kaufman, Justina Manzanares, Asha Reid, Delaney Sullivan, and Lily Swanson.
Members of the Riverton boys team from Lander are Shawn Cozzens, Blaine Goklish, Brayden Hickerson, Finn Johnson, Aidan Russell, and Matisse Weaver.
A select group of Riverton Indoor athletes will compete this Friday at Natrona County in a meet of champions format since the Simplot Games in Idaho, have been canceled again due to Covid concerns.
