(Cheyenne, WY) – The Wyoming Department of Corrections released minimal information about the death of 51-year-old Steven Newport which happened today, December 22nd.
Newport was hospitalized in Salt Lake City, Utah, according to the DOC release. No information on why he was was shared.
He was serving 5-7 years for “Unlawful Manufacture or Delivery Schedule II Drugs” in one of Wyoming’s correctional facilities – no specific facility was named in the release. Newport had been convicted of this in Campbell County on October 18th, 2017.
An autopsy has been ordered and an investigation will be conducted per departmental policy, according to the DOC.
County 10 will share updates as more information is released. This is the fourth inmate death reported since the beginning of October.
