(Johnson County, WY) – A head-on collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle occured around 10:16 AM on Sunday, September 5th, that resulted in one fatality, according to a Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) preliminary report.
The fatally injured motorcyclist has been identified as Wyoming man Thomas Hammell, 60.
Four other individuals were involved in the wreck, but left the scene uninjured, according to the report.
The report goes on to state that both vehicles were traveling over a mountain pass on US-16, the motorcycle was westbound and the sedan was eastbound.
The motorcycle was negotiating a sharp right hand curve when it crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane directly into the path of the sedan.
The driver of the sedan had no time to react, and both vehicles struck head-on.
The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Speed is also being looked into as a contributing factor.
This is the 77th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2021, compared to 87 in 2020, 110 in 2019, and 75 in 2018 to date.
