(Riverton, WY) – The Northern Arapaho 477 Biixoo3etiit Program hosted a youth conference on July 23rd and 24th this week at Central Wyoming College, culminating in the Wind River Rez Style Show Thursday night in the Peck Auditorium in Riverton.
Special guest speakers Christian Wassana, Kansas Middletent, and Seneca Skunk, who have experience in the modeling world, helped run the conference, hosted activities with the youth, and helped set up the style show.
Al Hubbard, the assistant director of the Intertribal Center, helped with the logistics and inner workings of hosting the style show on the Peck Stage. “We made sure we focused on identities and being native,” said Hubbard. “We wanted to make sure we showed how style is part of our native identity.”
Students wore native inspired pieces designed locally and from afar, including some pieces by Lauren Good Day and Choke Cherry Creek Designers. The community rallied as 25 volunteers came together to help organize the models, their clothing, and the show, which ran flawlessly, resembling something you might see in New York or Los Angeles.
Models strutted their stuff down the runway as house music with a native twist bumped through the speakers and a colorful backdrop helped set the tone last night in Riverton. Check out the photo gallery below:
