Just after 1:00 pm yesterday, June 16th, a fire was reported at the City of Riverton Yard Waste Facility on N Smith Road. The Riverton Fire Department and Fremont County Fire Protection were on the scene for about six hours.
No injuries were reported and only one piece of equipment was lost during the course of the fire, shared Riverton Fire Department Chief Henri DeClercq. Mechanical failure of this one piece of equipment is being investigated as the cause of the fire. “It seems to have started within the tub grinding unit and spread into the mulch piles in that area.”
The City of Riverton continues to monitor and contain the burning piles at the station today, June 17th.
DeClercq expressed his gratitude to Fremont County Fire Protection for all of their help yesterday. “If it weren’t for them, we’d still be there.”
