(Lander, WY) — County 10 has recently received a number of inquiries about the opening of Forest Service Road 300, known locally as “the Loop Road” or “Louie Lake Road.”
A representative at the Washakie Ranger District of the Shoshone National Forest let us know that the popular road, which provides scenic access to spots like Worthen Reservoir, Frye Lake, and Louis Lake, is currently closed due to snow drifts along much of the road. The Shoshone National Forest Facebook page confirmed as much in a post shared yesterday, May 27.
“Most of the Loop Road remains closed due to significant snow drifts,” the post states. “We will continue to assess the road conditions and swing the gates when it’s safe and the road has dried enough to not (be) damaged further with vehicle traffic.”
Last year, the Loop Road partially opened on May 31, from Bruce’s Parking Lot to the Worthen Meadow Campground, and went on to fully open around June 20.
The Washakie Ranger District of the Shoshone National Forest’s hours are 10 AM to 2 PM through Friday, May 30, then starting next week, on June 2, they will change to 12:30 to 4:30 PM (M-F).
