(Fremont County, WY) – On March 4, Fremont County and Prosecuting Attorney Patrick LeBrun officially announced his resignation, which will take effect on April 1.
Fremont County Republican Party Chairman Ginger Bennett recently shared additional details on what that process will look like.
“The Fremont County Republican Party Central Committee will be selecting three candidates for County Attorney to send to the County Commission for final selection of a new County Attorney following the resignation of Pat Lebrun,” Bennett shared. “By statute, we cannot begin advertising until after the resignation is official. However, I have been assured by Mr. Lebrun that he intends to vacate the office of County Attorney on March 30, 2025, causing a vacancy to exist as of April 1, 2025.”
The Central Committee must choose three candidates within 15 days.
The candidates are “chosen by the Republican Party, because it is a Republican-held office,” LeBrun had also clarified at the time of his resignation announcement.
LeBrun also explained that, in terms of qualifications, each candidate has to be a licensed attorney in Wyoming, a member of the Wyoming Bar, and a resident/registered voter in Fremont County at the time they are officially appointed.
Those three candidates will then go before the Fremont County Commissioners, who will then determine the individual to fill the position.
After being chosen, the replacement will hold that position until December 2026 in conjunction with that year’s election cycle.
“We would like to invite anyone with interest in applying for this position, and in being one of the three candidates sent forward to the County Commission,” Bennnet shared.
“For those interested, please send a resume, cover letter, and three references to gvrbennett@gmail.com prior to April 7, 2025. The Central Committee will be meeting to consider applications and to interview candidates prior to April 15, 2025.”
Bennet also said she wanted to “express gratitude to Pat Lebrun for his time and effort as our County Attorney over these past years.”
“It is not an easy job. It requires a stout heart to balance the necessity of victims to have justice, the rights of individuals to have a fair trial, and the desires of society to have fair dealings in the courts. My thanks to him for working toward these things and for encouraging his staff to do the same.”
