UPDATE: According to an update from Watch Duty shared around 4 PM, the fire is now burning at an estimated 3,000 acres.
UPDATE: As of 3:50 PM, the closure is now restricted to a portion of WY 28. Per WYDOT – “WY28: Fire, travel lane blocked near South Pass from milepost 58 to 63, be prepared to stop, expect delays.”
(Fremont County, WY) – A fire has been reported near Johnnie Lee’s Corner on WY 28, which, as of 2:56 PM, August 9, has led to the closure of all South Pass roads, according to WYDOT.
The closure is in effect for areas “Between the Fremont/Sublette Cty Line and Atlantic City Rd.;” “Between Atlantic City Rd and Mile Marker 63, Westbound Closure Gate;” and “Between Mile Marker 63, Westbound Closure Gate and US 287 / WY 789.”
WYDOT states that the estimated road opening is currently unknown.
The Watch Duty app indicates the fire is burning at an estimated 200 acres, and that four Single Engine Air Tankers and two Large Air Tankers have been ordered to the area.
