(Lander, WY) – The Area 1 Spring Games for Special Olympics Wyoming kicked off this morning, April 5, with many of the events still taking place at the Lander Valley High School (LVHS) football field and the swimming events at the Bruce Gresly Aquatic Center.
(Note: The games did not have a set itinerary for the timing of the events, but you can still just stop by to cheer on the athletes!)
The opening ceremony began with Raine Lesher signing the National Anthem, followed by the March of the athletes, the volunteer/athlete pledges, and the law enforcement torch run.
The torch run was led by Special Olympics athlete Lewis Fancher, who has been a Guardian of the Flame at the World Games in Germany and has raised thousands of dollars for the local Special Olympics Jakalope jump fundraisers.
