(Fremont County, WY) – The Winter Storm Watch issued by the National Weather Service in Riverton yesterday has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning as of today, March 5.
The warning is for the Lander Foothills, Green Mountains, and Rattlesnake Range areas, including the cities/towns of Dubois, Lander, Jeffrey City, Riverton, and Shoshoni.
The Warning is in effect from 11 PM this evening to 5 AM on Friday, March 7.
The NWSR says heavy snow is expected, and for the lower elevations, total snow
accumulations could be between 6 and 12 inches.
“Locally, higher amounts up to 15 inches (are) possible for the Lander Foothills,” the NWSR advises. “For the higher elevations, total snow accumulations (could be) between 8 and 16 inches. Higher snowfall amounts of 18 to 24 inches (are possible) for Green Mountain and the southeastern end of the Wind River Range.”
The NWSR added that winds will gust as high as 40 mph, and that travel could be “very difficult, especially in the backcountry.”
“The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.”
