(Fremont County, WY) – Contango Resources recently continued its ongoing efforts to give back to the community, and presented a $2,400 check to the Riverton High School SkillsUSA club, as well as two $1,000 checks to local fire halls in Shoshoni and Lysite.
SkillsUSA is a workforce development organization for students that “empowers students to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders and responsible community members,” and “encourages vocational skills based on real-life jobs, including welding, automotive, culinary, nursing, education and so much more.”
“It’s huge for us,” Lance Gard, SkillsUSA advisor and woodshop teacher at RHS, told County 10 at Thursday’s check presentation. “It helps us be able to outfit the kids.”
Gard explained that the jackets the students were wearing in the photo (note: not all students made it to the presentation) were purchased with a previous Contango donation, as well as the carpentry and cabinetry tool boxes they posed with, which are used for competitions. Gard said they have a competition coming up in April, and want to have another great showing like last year.
“We did really well last year. We had three second-place finishes, and we took a kid to nationals. It’s a really fun organization to be part of. …Contango has helped us out a lot in the last couple years, and we’ve been able to really help our membership and our community grow.”
“This is one of our favorite (donations) because this is probably the group of people that we would pull to hire in the future,” Elmer Witzel from Contango shared. “So that’s something that we really want to try to help with, clear up from our whole company.”
Contango also delivered $1,000 checks to the Shoshoni and Lysite Fire Departments back in August.
“We appreciate all of the hard work our volunteer fire departments do throughout the year to be prepared to help Fremont County in an emergency,” Contango’s Katrena Crimm commented.
