Dubois School Board welcomes new superintendent, K-12 principal

(Dubois, WY) – The Dubois School Board welcomed new Superintendent Dr. Annette Walters to Fremont County School District 2 this week, expressing excitement about “the leadership, the experience, and the vision” she will bring to the role.

“We are so thrilled to have you,” Board Chair Tracy Nguyen said during a work session Tuesday. “We really look forward to working with you to make Fremont 2 the best (district) that it can be for our students, our staff, and all of our community stakeholders.”

Since moving to Dubois from New Jersey, Walters said she has felt welcomed, embraced and supported by the community, which she described as “just so open.”

“It’s a great experience thus far,” she told the board this week. “I’m excited. Hopefully with the  partnership that I will have with the team that we have here, supporting students, ensuring that (the) community is involved and aware, I’m sure we will do great things. So I’m looking forward to that.”

Walters is replacing former superintendent Steve Splichal, who Nguyen recognized last month during his final school board meeting in Dubois.

“Your leadership, your presence here, and your commitment to our students and our staff has made a difference, and we appreciate all that you have done for our school district,” Nguyen said. “We want to thank you for all that you’ve done and we wish you all the best in the journey ahead.”

New principal

Walters also took the opportunity this week to introduce new K-12 Principal Malinda Garcia, who was hired after former principal Tad Romsa resigned last year.

Garcia grew up in Riverton and graduated from Wind River High School and the University of Wyoming, according to her interview for the position.

She spent 14 years teaching English at WRHS before moving to Laramie three years ago to serve as a principal. 

“It feels like I’m coming full circle,” she said this week. “I’m excited.”
