(Lander, WY) – Last week, the Lander City Council held a special meeting in order to name a Mayor Pro Tempore (temporary Mayor) following the unexpected and tragic passing of Lander Mayor Monte Richardson.
In a 4-2 council vote, Council President Julia Stuble was chosen to serve as the temporary Mayor at that meeting. It was also unanimously decided to schedule another special meeting, held tonight, February 25, in order to vote for and name a “permanent” Mayor to fill the position until the end of the scheduled term in December 2026.
In a 4-2 Council vote at tonight’s special meeting, Missy White was chosen as the new Mayor, with Dan Hahn receiving the other two votes.
White was nominated by John Larsen, and Dan Hahn was nominated by Josh Hahn.
In accordance with City Ordinance 12-5-1 and WS 15-1-107, the newly voted-in mayor will be required to resign their City Council seat prior to taking the oath of office, and the resignation confirmation/swearing-in of the new Mayor will now be placed on the agenda for the next regular meeting, which is currently scheduled for March 11.
Upon acceptance of the Council seat resignation at the March 11 meeting, the newly voted-in Mayor will immediately take the oath of office, and the Council will then discuss the process/timeline to fill the vacant Council seat.
