(Lander, WY) – Kelly Waugh, who has served as the Lander Police Department’s Interim Chief of Police since the retirement of previous Chief Scott Peters back in April of 2025, was officially sworn in as the Chief at Tuesday’s Lander City Council meeting.
After being sworn in by City Attorney Adam Phillips, former LPD Chief Scott Peters conducted the pinning.
“You and I have had a number of conversations about the importance of integrity, of character, and how we incorporate that in the service to our community, and certainly in the police department,” Mayor Missy White said before conducting the law enforcement oath of honor.
“I’ve been so appreciative of seeing how that weighs again and again and again in the actions you take, in the decisions you make, the selections of the people you’re bringing into the department. It means a lot to me that you’re doing that, and I think it means a lot to these folks, seeing how many of them are here tonight as well.”
Following the swearing-in and pinning, Waugh’s first action as Chief was a recognition of two LPD officers for their life-saving efforts.
